WAIKIKI AQUARIUM IS HOME TO MANY UNIQUE SPECIES
The Waikiki Aquarium houses many unique species that are found in no other public aquarium in the world. Often referred to as aquarium "jewels", the Waikiki Aquarium gives guests the opportunity to see species that would otherwise be inaccessible in their natural habitat. WAIKIKI AQUARIUM IS THE ONLY PUBLIC AQUARIUM IN THE WORLD TO EXHIBIT RARE PEPPERMINT ANGELFISH
One of the ocean's rarest creatures has made its home at the Waikiki Aquarium: Centyropyge boylei, more commonly known as the peppermint angelfish was collected in 400 feet of water in Tahiti by Bishop Museum's Dr. Richard Pyle. The candy-striped beauty is the only one of its kind to be on display at a public aquarium.

Opening its first major exhibit in six years, the Waikiki Aquarium will unveil its new Northwestern
Hawaiian Islands exhibit on August 18, 2011. Showcasing marine life from the Papahānaumokuākea
Marine National Monument, which is home to over 7,000 marine species, a quarter of which are found nowhere else on Earth, the new exhibit will offer Waikiki Aquarium guests a rare opportunity to view a living reef ecosystem representative of that found in the world's most isolated islands.
