In conjunction with the Honolulu Mayor's Office of Culture and the Arts, the Waikiki Aquarium will welcome visitors and Hawaii residents to experience Seasons and the Sea on May 2, 2013, a
sunset cultural observance that only occurs once a year. Held on the grounds Ewa of the Aquarium from 5:30 to 7 p.m., the Hawaiian celebration symbolizes the transition from Ho'oilo (wet season) to Kauwela (hot or warm-dry
season) as the sun sets into the crown of Pu'u o Kapolei.
WAIKIKI AQUARIUM AND UH BOTANY DEPARTMENT TEAM UP ON INVASIVE ALGAE CLEAN UP
Nearly 30 volunteers from the Waikiki Aquarium and the University of Hawaii at Manoa's botany department recently teamed up to remove 1,500 pounds of invasive algae from the coral reef fronting the Aquarium.

WAIKIKI AQUARIUM IS HOME TO MANY UNIQUE SPECIES
The Waikiki Aquarium houses many unique species that are found in no other public aquarium in the world. Often referred to as aquarium "jewels", the Waikiki Aquarium gives guests the opportunity to see species that would otherwise be inaccessible in their natural habitat. Among the selection of unique species are the peppermint angelfish, Abe's angelfish, irregular rice coral and the Hawaiian morwong.

One of the ocean's rarest creatures has made its home at the Waikiki Aquarium: Centyropyge boylei, more commonly known as the peppermint angelfish was collected in 400 feet of water in Tahiti by Bishop Museum's Dr. Richard Pyle. The candy-striped beauty is the only one of its kind to be on display at a public aquarium.

Opening its first major exhibit in six years, the Waikiki Aquarium will unveil its new Northwestern
Hawaiian Islands exhibit on August 18, 2011. Showcasing marine life from the Papahānaumokuākea
Marine National Monument, which is home to over 7,000 marine species, a quarter of which are found nowhere else on Earth, the new exhibit will offer Waikiki Aquarium guests a rare opportunity to view a living reef ecosystem representative of that found in the world's most isolated islands.
APRIL IS MONK SEAL EDUCATION MONTH AT THE WAIKIKI AQUARIUM
Monk seal keiki activities will be held on Wednesdays, April 6, 13, 20
and 27 from 10 a.m.-12:00 noon. Learn about the monk seal at the Research Camp on Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Monk Seal educational activities are free with admission to the Aquarium.
